Maternity Photography and Portraits :: Central Wisconsin Photography

Last week I had my first (ever!) maternity photo session with Cathy and Paul. I knew it would be fun, they have the same names as my sister and her husband:) I went to their house and set my lights up in their nursery. I don't have a studio, but I am portable! I think it was better at their home too, especially in their cute nursery. It is more natural to have people photographed in familiar surroundings where they are comfortable. Here are a few photos from the shoot!

Recent Winter Holga

Where did this week go??? Not that I'm not glad that it is Friday (although I have to work this weekend) but things went fast this week. I have been busy working on wedding photos from last weekend, as well as my first-ever maternity session yesterday! It was really fun and we set up a mini studio in the nursery! Besides all the editing I have been doing, it has snowed here and spring has been halted right in it's tracks. I even made out out climbing on Monday.... but alas, snow came on Tuesday.

Here are a few Holgas from a roll that I thought last. Hopefully these will be my last winter photos for the next eight months:)

Erica and Kelvin's Early Spring Wedding :: Wausau, Wisconsin Wedding Photographer

This past weekend I had the honor of photographing Erica and Kelvin's early spring wedding in Wausau, Wisconsin. The sun was shining and spring was definitely in the air on Saturday. Erica chose tulips as her flowers and they were so were perfect for the day. Their wedding ceremony and reception was held at The Plaza in Wausau. It was fun to take a lot of shots inside the venue and they were really accommodating at The Plaza. Despite the sun, it is still March in Wisconsin, it was a bit chilly outside, but the bridal party were troopers and went outside for some shots. Thank you for having me photograph your wedding! Congratulations Erica and Kelvin!

365 Photos

Spring has nearly sprung! By that I mean that trees are tapped for syrup'in and I heard a robin. There is still a lot of snow on the ground and March can seem like a very long month some years, but I have seen the light of spring! Here are some photos from the past few weeks of my 365 project.

Senior Photos :: Central Wisconsin Senior Photographer

I'm looking for seniors for senior photos! I have photographed seniors in the past and it has always been a blast. I would love to do more this year... anywhere! I don't have a studio, but it is fun to find locations that suit the senior's personality rather than just throw up a cheesy background that everyone else has. Email me if you are interested! l.t.schmitt@gmail.com

WNA Awards

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of going to the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation awards banquet in Appleton. I received a few awards for some multimedia and photos that I have done in the past year. The newspapers are divided into circulation classes, and The Mashfield News-Herald is in class C. They also hand out a book of all the winners and you get to see how the judges critiqued you photos, which I find the most interesting.

First - General News Photo
A member of the Wisconsin National Guard shouts out to his family as he gets off the plane at Volk Field after returning from a year-long deployment to Iraq in January, 2010.

Second - Feature Photo
Patrick Squires, president of the Marshfield Area Juggling Club, juggles and tosses pins with Nate Seefeldt of Wisconsin Dells, during a club meeting on Monday, April 5, 2011 at the Chestnut Center for the Arts.

Third - Photo Essay

First - Creative Use of Multimedia
This was for our series at the paper "Home Grown" where we featured local food growers and food sources. We featured photo galleries and audio slideshows online. I only have access to my audio slideshows, but the other photographer at our newspaper worked on the project too.

Second -  Web Special Project
This was for the same "Home Grown" series where online we featured recipes, photo galleries and webs stories, as well as audio slideshows. This award was also for our staff writers.

There were a few other awards too, First - Special Section for a story that the staff at The Stevens Point Journal worked on, "Back from Iraq: Voices of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team" for which I also took photos for. Second - All-Around Newspaper Photography for our photo staff (of two:)) at the Marshfield News-Herald.

New Photos

I am so, so, so glad that it is Friday! These past two weeks have been a challenge. It is hard to go back to work after being off for a week, and then harder yet to work 10 days in a row with the most epic head cold ever. AND, I slid into a curb and rendered my car un-drivable.  Here are a few recent photos from my 365 project.

Playing Scrabble the other night. I am out of practice.... gotta exercise the brain!

Saint Stevens and Peters Church in Wisconsin Rapids. I was there to photograph the renovations.

I was waiting in the snow for my ride because I ran into a curb and messed up my car.

About 600 demonstrators met in Marshfield to protest Governor Walker's proposed bill to strip unions of the their bargaining rights.
