Fall in Holgas and 35mm

I am off to the Canadian Shield today or tomorrow for some time paddling, packing and portaging through the Boundary Waters. It might be a bit cold, or it might not be. I guess it depends on what your definition of cold is :) We went last year at this time and it was pretty much awesome. I am looking forward to being off the grid for a week. No email.... no phone....just water and woods :)

This week we did get in a canoe trip to celebrate my birthday! It was a great birthday... turning almost 30 isn't too bad! I haven't been shooting many holgas lately because my photo focus has been elsewhere..... but I wanted to shoot a roll though of this expired Agfa film from 2004 just to make sure it was ok and the colors weren't too weird. It was a win!

Some more film photos.... I went on a walk late this summer at the Mead Nature Preserve and brought my trusty Pentax and a 50mm lens. I love the shallow dof! I forgot how much I love this camera and lens. I don't shoot through film to quickly with this camera... I usually bring my holga on outdoor walks. It is a nice change of pace though and I got to chase frogs and grasshoppers!

Five Day Fall Weekend

I love five day weekends! I have some vacation to use up, so what better way to use it than a chilly trip to the Boundary Waters? We went last year in June and it was chilly, so I think it will be chilly again. On the plus side of the chilly-ness, hopefully no ticks, no bug nets for mosquitoes, and our food won't spoil!

It may not look like last time, but it will still be nice to be there. I am going to purchase more layers, but it isn't suppose to be that bad, no snow.

This isn't fall nature, but fall colored nevertheless. I photographed a new bakery in Point, A Dash of Delicious, and I couldn't resist. They were quite good too!

Gallery News

Since I have started my fall project, I didn't really expect to do much with it except learn to like fall. But, I occasionally look for open calls for gallery submissions and juried competitions, and I saw one for a gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Ciao Gallery was having an "Autumn Leaves" exhibition, featuring works inspired by the fall. so I entered. My photos were accepted, so now I will be displaying there starting November 18. Exciting!

Fall Photos

Oh my goodness, it is the weekend again! I am not really sure where this week went or what I did besides work and celebrate and bake a caramel cake that was a near-disaster. I seemed to lag a bit in the fall picture department, but I will share a few that I have!

Happy Fall Weekend!

Happy Fall Weekend! I am pretty sure it will be a good one..... I am heading to Hawkeye country to watch the Iowa/Wisconsin game.... on TV (tickets were super expensive) and to celebrate a 28th birthday - mine! I also finally got some color 120 film that I am excited to shoot it up! AND one more thing... I am just ordered some sample wedding albums from KISS. I will soon be offering KISS albums for my wedding and engagement photography (I am pretty excited about this!)  More on that next week....

I photographed this while photographing fall ski jumping. I know, right? It is October and there is now snow. They ran down the 52-meter ski jump on metal tracks that were wet and the landed on wet plastic. It seems scary to me and slightly... dangerous. Most of the jumpers were in their early teens! I asked a guy who was helping if it was safer than it looked and he said it was. 

You can't really tell it is fall here, but it is. They go off the end of the ramp around 60-70 mph. 

Recent Holga

I have a few recent Holgas to share. I just ordered some color film... just in time for the leaves to fall off all the trees :) There is always next year!

This past weekend I went to Kansas City to visit my sister and her family. We were going to take photos of my two nephews, but our designated day it rained. Here are a few photos.... it is hard to take photos of little people who are quick and run around a lot!

It was a nice weekend! AND we got Indian food. My fall photos didn't so much happen, except for the Pumpkins, but now that I am back, they will continue!

Ice Age Fall Hike

This Sunday I went on a fall hike. I haven't had very much "unstructured"  free time this fall, and most of my weekends are busy from here.... for awhile. I went on a hike on the Ice Age Trail, one of my favorite convenient hikes. I started near Rib Lake, which is only about an hour from Marshfield.

 

I like ferns. I like them when they are green and brown. I have never seen them like this, or, at least noticed them like this.

Friday Fall Photos

 I usually don't take photos in the morning because.... I am not awake in the morning! I kid, I kid, I am awake, but doing other things, like... other things that I do in the morning. This morning was a bit different though. I usually run in the mornings and today I went to do that, but my camera was in my car. So... I took photos instead. I ran a little, but definitely not a lot. It was pretty muddy. I guess the morning light struck m, as did the dew and the fall.

I might be obsessed with lens flare. Just a little. Happy first Friday in October! la la la!

Fall Project

I am still taking photos for my Fall project! Six days strong! I haven't yet rekindled my love of fall (especially when it is this cold this early) but I am working on it!

I was at my garden and the sun came out right when it was setting. It threw brilliant colors all over the grass. Perfect timing.
